No.
Whoever said, love is the answer, was dead wrong.
No is the answer.
At least it is, where this year's show honoring Chicago's best creative advertising is concerned. Why is that? Because the award show, not unlike our industry itself, needs a good, swift kick in the pants and a bit of re-imagining.
Award shows are mostly about awards, egos, fleeting recognition and free drinks. So, do we really neet to put on another award show that's just like every other award show?
No.
What we do need is to set aside a night, where we not only recognize the great work being done here, but just as importantly, where we come together as a community and celebrate all the great people who work in this town.
Think of it as a great big party, where an award show breaks out, rather than the other way around. In order to pull this off, we must respectfully say 'no' to all things expected.
No posing.
No endless ceremony.
No gloating.
No comedians.
No preening.
No speeches.
No backstabbing (maybe a little).
No whining.
No free drinks (kidding).
No same old, same old.
No. Not another award show that's just like every other award show. A party, a celebration, a night where everyone's invited and everyone's glad they came.
The Chicago No Show.
Could this be the one awards show, which redefines all award shows hereafter?
No. But it will be a wild night, so please see that you join us.
